In 1926, on an icy winter morning in the small West Texas town, Edith May Babcock was born. Little Edith May grew up nurtured by the love of her family and community. She believed there was no better place in the world to live than her small town of Sonora. With its hills and caves to explore, cacti and tumbleweed, and antelope and horses, the vast West Texas countryside was her playground.
Based on Edith May's childhood memories, The Little West Texas Girl is a series of books that highlight the adventures of Edith May. Among the stories included in this series are tales of riding a runaway horse, starting a hobby club, being trapped in a cave, trips to the experiment station, and holiday traditions. Her stories reveal qualities of kindness, generosity, courage, and compassion. The lessons learned from growing up in Sonora, Texas, a caring and close-knit community in far West Texas.
Edith May Babcock was an avid reader and passionate writer. She was a lifelong learner, always curious for new adventures. In addition to stories detailing experiences of her youth in 1930’s West Texas, she also wrote of globetrotting adventures with her young family in tow, life abroad in 1950’s South Africa, and accounts chronicling personal experiences as a single woman raising her family in the late 1960’s - 70’s. She raised four children who were nourished by her eternal love and support.
